UMn2Al20: Small Itinerant Moment or Induced Local Moment Ferromagnetism?

چکیده
Abstract. The magnetic susceptibility, specific heat, resistivity and inelastic neutron scattering spectrum were measured on the cubic heavy Fermion compound UMn2Al20. A ferromagnetic transition is observed in the magnetic susceptibility at Tc=20 K, but no anomaly is seen in the specific heat or resistivity at Tc. This behaviour is similar to that of the single-triplet induced moment ferromagnet Pr3Tl. Since the 5f electrons of uranium have the possibility of being in the 5f electron configuration with a nonmagnetic J=0 ground state and a triplet excited state, such induced moment behaviour is a possibility in UMn2Al20. Since the linear coefficient of specific heat at T = 0 is large (0.3 J/mol-K) a second possibility is moderately small (~ 0.9 B) moment itinerant ferromagnetism in a heavy Fermion system. In the energy transfer range 5 < E < 60 meV the inelastic neutron scattering spectra appear to be dominated by phonon scattering, with no obvious magnetic scattering. Hence, if either scenario is correct, there must be magnetic excitations at lower (1-5 meV) energies.

Coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism in Sr0.5Ce0.5FBiS2-xSex (x = 0.5 and 1.0), a non-U material with Tc < TFM
We have carried out detailed magnetic and transport studies of the new Sr0.5Ce0.5FBiS2-xSex (0.0 ≤ x ≤ 1.0) superconductors derived by doping Se in Sr0.5Ce0.5FBiS2. Se-doping produces several effects: it suppresses semiconducting-like behavior observed in the undoped Sr0.5Ce0.5FBiS2, the ferromagnetic ordering temperature, TFM, decreases considerably from 7.5 K (in Sr0.5Ce0.5FBiS2) to 3.5 K and...
متن کاملMagnetic domain walls of relic fermions as Dark Energy
We show that relic fermions of the Big Bang can enter a ferromagnetic state if they possess a magnetic moment and satisfy the requirements of Stoner theory of itinerant ferromagnetism. The domain walls of this ferromagnetism can successfully simulate Dark Energy over the observable epoch spanning ∼ 10 billion years. We obtain conditions on the anomalous magnetic moment of such fermions and thei...

The temperature (T) dependence of the optical conductivity spectra σ(ω) of a single crystal SrRuO(3) thin film is studied over a T range from 5 to 450 K. We observed significant T dependence of the spectral weights of the charge transfer and interband d-d transitions across the ferromagnetic Curie temperature (T(c) ∼ 150 K). Such T dependence was attributed to the increase in the Ru spin moment...

Whereas dc measurements of magnetic susceptibility, χ, fail to distinguish between local and weak itinerant ferromagnets, radio-frequency (rf) measurements of χ in the ferromagnetic state show dramatic differences between the two. We present sensitive tunnel-diode resonator measurements of χ in the weak itinerant ferromagnet ZrZn2 at a frequency of 23 MHz. Below Curie temperature, TC ≈ 26 K, th...
